- Indian Institute of Management, Trichy
Established in 2011, this by far is the best government B-school in Tamil Nadu on almost every parameter of comparison with its contemporaries in the state. What is the striking feature upfront is the IIM tag that goes with it and you don’t need to be told about the significance of IIM tag in the Indian MBA parlance. To get into this prestigious institute, you need to score at least 96-97 percentile in CAT examination to be able to participate in the WAT-PI process of IIM Trichy. They give only 50% weightage to the CAT percentile, the remaining 50% is on WAT (14%), PI (14-17%), Undergraduate Percentage (10%), and Gender Diversity (5%). The program it offers are PGPM, PGPM-HR, PGPBM (executive MBA), and ePGP for working executives. The intake is 180 students every year for the PGPM program. The fees for 2 years PGPM program is 11.8 lacs. The average package from IIM Trichy for the batch 2019 was 14.9 lacs with highest package being 35 lacs. 94 companies visited the campus for final placements. In the internships, the highest stipend was 3.2 lacs with average stipend being 83000 with 78 companies visiting the campus.
- Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai
Next in the list is Great Lakes Chennai which is another top-notch B-school in Tamil Nadu established in 2004. This private institute has a batch size of 120 students in its PGDM course which is AMBA, and SAQS accredited. The average CTC was 10.14 lacs with 73 companies on campus for final placements. There is a PGPM program as well which offers 1-year MBA for professionals with work experience of more than 2 years. The average CTC here is 13.1 lacs with 29 lacs being the highest package. The batch size here is of 400 students and 362 companies visited the campus for placements. The fees for the 2-year PGDM program is INR 17.15 lacs with CAT/XAT/GMAT scores being accepted for admissions. The fees for 1-year PGPM program is 19.25 lacs (including hostel and food charges) with admission being through CAT/GMAT/XAT or through profile-based interviews.

If IIM Trichy has an IIM tag to its name, this government institute carries the prestigious IIT tag with it. The Department of Management Studies (DoMS hereafter) was established in 2004 here and was the first IIT offering MBA program to non-engineers in 2013. DoMS has its flagship 2 year MBA program which takes CAT scores for admissions with 60% in UG, however, if you are an engineer from any IIT with a minimum CGPA of 8.0, then you will be exempted from CAT entry route. Here also, weightage is on several parameters like work experience, academic diversity, CAT score, gender diversity etc. to compute the composite score. Final selection is based on the WAT-PI score and composite score. The batch size is small and consists of only 65 students with average work experience of 19 months. The fees for the MBA program is 8 lacs payable in four equal instalments in every semester. The final placements are at par with other good B-schools with average package at 12.44 lacs and highest CTC clocking 29.06 lacs with 34 companies visiting the campus for final placements.
- Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA), Chennai
Another preferred choice in private institutes when it comes to planning to go for an MBA from Tamil Nadu. LIBA was one of the oldest MBA institutions in the country dating back from 1979. LIBA’s PGDM full-time program is their flagship program which considers CAT/XAT scores for admission. The candidate should have at least 60% in class 10th, 12th and Graduation. Final selection is done on the basis of CAT/XAT scores, and performance in GD-PI. There are Part-Time PGDM program of 3 years with classes on weekends and Executive Education program as well. The average annual package was 9.5 lacs with the highest being 17 lacs and 50 companies visiting the campus in 13 sectors. The fees for the regular 2 year PGDM program is 15.26 lacs with the option of Dual Specialization. The batch intake for this program is 240 students
- Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM), Trichy
BIM Trichy is yet another institute which has gained immense prominence lately and had become aspirants’ first choice over the years. It is also an old institute that has stood the test of time since its inception in 1984. BIM Trichy offers a full-time MBA program amongst other executive programs and PhD in its basket of offerings. The admission to this institute is through the CAT exam only. After shortlisting, the eligible candidates had to go through the WAT/GD-PI process to get that one coveted seat. The batch size of BIM Trichy in MBA is 120 students. The fees of the flagship MBA program is 13.5 lacs for two years. The average annual CTC stood at 10 lacs with the median package being 8.5 lacs, however, the highest package was 15 lacs.
